Job Description

As a Research Scientist at our biotech startup, you will be independently responsible for leading our green R&D initiatives in the area of natural biodegradable materials, encompassing both new and existing product development.

Role and Responsibilities

- Work with technical teams at BIOWEG to perform a comprehensive life cycle analysis on the process and product.
- Collect and analyze the data related to BIOWEG’s processes.
- Quantify its environmental impact and identify the opportunities to reduce that impact.
- Build Life Cycle Inventories for materials of interest leveraging knowledge of chemical processes, mass, and energy balances.
- Develop Cradle to Gate and Cradle to Grave models.

Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelors/Masters in the field of Environmental Science, Energy/Resource/Product Management, Economic Engineering, Life Cycle Assessment/Sustainability or comparable.
- Ability to construct and deconstruct a process/product.
- Ability to structure an impact analysis process and manage the collection of information from various individuals, teams, and other external databases.
- Validate the quality of the data sources and build references.
- Familiarity with one or more carbon impact measurement methodologies is a plus: Carbon Footprint, LCA, GHG Protocol, etc.
- The ability to work with OpenLCA or equivalent is highly desirable. 
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
- Fluency in English - both verbal and written.
